The Church of Hades is a religion characterized by the worship of the deity of death, generally called Hades. With devotees scattered across The First Kingdom (and assumedly the rest of world), it is a fast-growing religion, with many powerful clerics rising to the call of the underlord. Hades' clerics are called apostles.

Clerics
The chosen few who were both unlucky enough to die, and lucky enough to meet Hades, are gifted with wondrous powers, and commanded to maintain the natural order of life and death. These few are the spearhead of the Church of Hades, and most worshipers answer to an apostle.
Current High Priest of Hades is Uulmshar. Other known apostles are Kendall and Sir Byron.

Practices
The Church of Hades' main goal is to guide souls to the underworld; to keep the natural cycle of life and death.
This is achieved in two basic ways:

Returning escaped souls
Those who escape fate are keeping their souls from Hades. Ghosts, ghouls, and vampires are the direct results of souls resisting the pull of the underlord. These abominations must be destroyed.
Destruction of necromancers
Necromancers contort the natural process of death for their own gain. Beings who abuse this power must be stopped and punished.

Cathedrals
Most religions have a deity of death. The Church of Hades sees them all as aspects of the same entity. This belief of a single god with many incarnations came to be reflected in the Chuch's cathedrals, which contain a public shrine with idols of death gods from the many religions of the First Kingdom, including Malum and the Wolfmother.

Sir Uulmshar, knight of the realm, first Apostle and High Priest of Hades, founded the Church of Hades and co-founded the Mercenaries of Bitter Peak, where he previously held a seat on the Bitter Peak council of generals as "Lord of Blood." Dubbed "most energetic" at the first Skullbowl.
History
Sold to a farmer at the age of six, Uulmshar returned to the Bitter Peak on his fourteenth birthday. He lived at the peak of the mountain for six years, refusing to associate with the weak people of the city below him.

Valuing power above all else, he gladly made a pact with the charismatic Twisting Lord, leading up to the Lords of Bitter Peak event. Afterwards, they solidified the loose society of mercenaries in the city-state of Bitter Peak. He lead most of the exploration parties from the mountain, and it was Uulmshar's first suggestion to expand beyond the islands that started the Invasion of Langerhausen, where both he, and the majority of the forces under his command, were betrayed from within and slaughtered at the hands of their fellows.

When he awoke as a cleric of Hades, his new religion took up most of his effort, and the leading of war parties became secondary to him. Withdrawing a half-elf entertainer from the dungeons, Uulmshar convinced the man to impersonate him in battle, so as to create the idea that he was still present in military actions. The man agreed, and forsook his own identity of Conrich to become Uulmshar's body-double.

With that taken care of, Uulmshar wandered the world for nigh a year, to seek out and destroy the corruption of the undead, in the name of his lord, Hades. At The Blighted Forest, during an impromptu council meeting, with the freshly reunited council, Savalis exposed Uulmshar's double and banished the other generals from leading the country, taking rule for himself. To avoid conflict, Uulmshar left on pilgrimage again, to leave the Steel Lord to continue ruling alone.

On his pilgrimage, he followed rumors of undead south, across the water, where he found an undead plague spreading. He spent most of his time there healing the sick and ensuring that the dead stayed dead. He gathered a small militia and hunted down the necromancer responsible for the plague.

He returned to the First Kingdom, where has placed a petition to the emperor to allow the construction of a cathedral to Hades in the capital.

For his services to the realm, Uulmshar was knighted in January of 7 DY.

Uulmshar took a neutral stance during the Legion/Mardur war, occasionally working as a mercenary. In one such battle, he was hired by Mardur, who was besieging a Legion tower. After successfully flanking and defeating the group outside the tower, Uulmshar just kept killing, finishing off several Mardurians, including Kit_Foxwyfe, the leader of the warband, before being felled, himself. Mardur did not win that battle. Rumors abound whether he's gone mad, or was just bought by Legion. There is currently a price on his head.

Religion
Uulmshar spent most of his life irreligious. Striving for safety and power in the material world left little time to think about the metaphysical.

After dying savagely at the hands of his own men, he spent some time wandering through Hades, where he made a deal with the deity of death; Hades gifted Uulmshar with power over life and death, and Uulmshar would henceforth endeavor to guide souls to their proper place in the underworld.

After returning to the living realm, Uulmshar immediately dedicated the majority of his efforts into appeasing his new master, hunting down wayward souls and those who abuse them. He founded the Church of Hades, becoming the first apostle of Hades, and converted his friend, Kendall, who became a cleric as well.

His pilgrimages leave broken and sanctified undead in his wake, and often lead to a powerful necromancer or demon that must be slain. Repeated deaths during these religious quests has caused Uulmshar to lose all fear of dying, and he often runs into battle laughing or singing prayers to his dark god.
Alim is a mercenary of the Cedar Order from the Southern continent.

Alim originates from deep within the Southern continent. He doesn’t remember when or how he was taken in by the Cedar Order, only that his parents died when he was very young. He grew up as a junior member of the mercenary group, fighting in his first skirmish when he was only eleven.

Although Alim grew up with one of the most renowned mercenary groups in the South, he turned out to be a pretty mediocre fighter. He could use a bow well enough and worked as a scout and reservist sometimes, but was a mere grunt compared to the veterans of the order.

During one particularly large battle, Alim’s cowardice cost the mercenary company dearly; he noticed an enemy squad approaching from behind, and, instead of warning his fellows, he ran and hid, letting the enemy catch his group unawares. After the battle, his company found him hiding in a small cave, and they decided to exile him to the Northern continents until he could prove his worth to them.

Alim now fights as a mercenary in the North, hoping to strengthen his skills, find his courage, earn wealth and glory, and, above all, regain the recognition of the Cedar Order.

This duty allows new fighters to band together and explore the world, with some experienced veterans to help out as needed.

The Mercenaries of Bitter Peak is the militaristic kingdom controlling the large mountain where they get their name, Bitter Peak, as well as several smaller islands throughout Dargarth.
History
It has long been forgotten when dwarves first came to the First Kingdom of Dargarth, but one of their largest and most impressive cities was built beneath the tallest mountain in the land, now called Bitter Peak, for reasons of the frosty weather.
For hundreds of years, the dwarves under the mountain ruled their lands, but, for reasons unknown, they eventually left. Scholars speculate that they suffered famine due to the encroaching cold from the north, and migrated south to more hospitable lands.
The city beneath the mountain was never fully deserted, however. Criminals and vagrants remained in dark corners of their own, and, over hundreds of years, a new township blossomed again. The once great city of the dwarves was now a ramshackle shanty town full of bandits, cutthroats, exiles, and mercenaries. It was not a happy place.
The Lords of Bitter Peak
The powerful naturally subvert the weak. Several individuals with superb skills of combat, influence, and mysticism came to hold onto positions of authority. They accepted the titles of lords, and agreed to keep peace between each other, though the land remained divided. The woodland elves were very isolationist, the mercenaries in the city fought among themselves constantly, a rogue mage held a rich port town, and the council was weak and ineffective.
One lord, however, saw the inherent weakness of a divided nation, and started pulling strings and twisting his webs of influence. The twisting lord, Lucian, used his small group of spies to abduct prominent heroes from the surrounding nations, prompting the Lords of Bitter Peak event, where adventurers from all over the First Kingdom slew the other Lords, leaving Lucian the sole ruler.
The Mercenaries
The black flag of Bitter Peak became infamous on the island in the north over the next year.
After encountering the other people of the country, the ragtag military - held together by fear and bribes - started offering their battle expertise for money, and called themselves the Mercenaries of Bitter Peak. This sword-for-hire work has brought wealth into the tundra land that this group call home, and they used it to expand. They captured the lands to the east of the mountains, scattered the isolationist elves, opened up trade routes to the south, and claimed The Wooded Isle to the west.
The ranger, Uulmshar, suggested expanding beyond the immediate area. His spies reported that the Knights of Solaris - the nobles ruling the Isles of Langerhausen - were weak and did not return any diplomatic attempts. With Lucian's approval, Uulmshar gladly lead the rally to gather their men for war, which led to the events of the Day of Two Sieges, where Bitter Peak's forces were torn apart from within.
Betrayal at the battle for the Langerhausen Capital triggered an investigation, which led back to the Bitter Peak council of elders. They were dealt with, and replaced, by Lucian's leading military advisers, Savalis, Uulmshar, and Varador.
Having left to rule Sanctuary, Sir Lucian no longer ruled the mercenaries, so the council of generals ruled in his stead.
The council adopted the old tradition of lordly titles. Savalis stepped forward as the new Lord of Steel, leading the military; Uulmshar looked to his religion for guidance, becoming the Lord of Blood; and Varador accepted responsibility of the left-overs, calling himself Lord of the Lost, shortly before he left on pilgrimage. Savalis and Uulmshar jokingly call him the Lost Lord for this.
Gold for Blood
The fall of Langerhausen seems to have spurred the mercenaries into new activity, as they moved quickly to secure claim on the island they once before invaded. After rebuilding the Langer capital city, they moved outwards, securing the ancient lighthouse in the west and finding an old castle in the south.
Bloody Secrets
In secret, Uulmshar hired a body double to lead battles in his stead, so he could devote his time to his religion. When he returned to Bitter Peak, Varador had returned from pilgrimage as well, and the newly reunited council went to The Blighted Forest, at the urging of Savalis. During an impromptu council meeting during the adventure, Savalis revealed Uulmshar's double and expressed that he did not want the other lords there, and, to avoid conflict, Uulmshar and Varador left on their pilgrimages again, to leave the Steel Lord to rule.
In their absence, Savalis crowned himself king, taking absolute rule for himself, promoting Jabari to General, and hiring Uulmshar's old body-double, Conrich, as a spy.
Sir Uulmshar, knight of the realm, first apostle and High Priest of Hades, founded the Church of Hades and co-founded the Mercenaries of Bitter Peak, where he previously held a seat on the Bitter Peak council of generals. "Most energetic" at the first Skullbowl.

Conrich is arguably the worst bard to travel the First Kingdom of Dargarth, but he still seems to make loads of money, possibly from writing cheap thriller novels.
He is an okay knife-fighter and a notorious flirt, but, despite rampant mediocrity, he thinks very highly of himself and always has a cheery demeanor.
Early Life
Conrich was raised among the upper-class families of Bitter Peak, as the bastard son of councilor Rodrich Dolsworth. At twenty-five, after an argument with his father, he left Bitter Peak to find his mother's people, the elves. He didn't need to travel far until he found and joined a wood-elf village in the forest, just to the south, where he spent a few years before he started a troupe of minstrels to travel the lands for the purpose of earning money for the small community.
Homecoming
Upon returning, many years later, the troupe found the forest in ashes and the people nowhere to be seen. They learned that the insular mercenaries from the mountain had taken over, and decided the elves were a threat to be removed. His companions fled the land, but Conrich decided to seek out his human family, when he was captured and imprisoned. They claimed he was an elf spy, but his nephew was on the Bitter Peak council, and defended him, preventing his execution. He could not prevent his imprisonment, however. Conrich had only himself as company for a year and a half in the Bitter Dungeons.

Impersonation
He was released by the Lord of Blood, Uulmshar, who needed a body-double to lead military actions in his stead. The two had similar features, and Conrich's mediocre acting skills would fit the job perfectly. Obviously, he agreed, and was given a wardrobe imitating Uulmshar's own.
When he wasn't pretending to be a death cleric, he wandered the lands of the First Kingdom, searching for riches in the guise of providing entertainment and joy. He received a letter from Uulmshar, informing him that his services as stand-in general would no longer be needed, as Uulmshar had been unseated by Savalis, thus freeing Conrich of any and all obligations.
Independence
After a year or so of aimless wandering, he returned to Bitter Peak to learn that the entire house of Dolsworth had been ousted during a coup on the old council, and they were nowhere to be found. Having no familial ties to the mountain city, he left for greener, warmer lands, with more exotic cultures, prettier women, and heavier treasuries. He also started dabbling in more slight-of-hand magic tricks, as they tend to draw bigger audiences.
Conrich was hired by the Knights of Erzoth as a quick at the fourth Skullbowl, quickly losing to Legion's team in the first match. He chose to stay as a referee for the rest of the games, and was awarded the "good sportsmanship" trophy.
Dameaion of Dominion found Conrich, in a Bitter Peak uniform, defending a Sanctuary tower from a Mardurian assault, and took him prisoner. King Thorne later came to visit him in Dominion. He was released a few weeks later.
He has lately been seen working with the Mercenaries of Bitter Peak. He claims that he's following them for inspiration for his next book, but many will point out that he has a history of just following where the money flows heaviest, and Savalis is a very generous employer.

On the first night, Kendric brought all the so-far gathered heroes and told them of "the rift" and of the ancient order of magi who had once studied them. Morigan, Thorne, Artemisa, Zi, Hangman, Scritta, and Gurp Gorp were able to find and recover the remaining pieces of lore (though Thorne was cursed in the process).

That night, to strengthen the ties of reality, the most ancient of magics, stories, were shared amongst the assembled heroes, ranging from gods to the exploits of individuals.
The accumulated power of the relics was so great, and they had to be physically separated from the potions, lest they became corrupted. Shadow beasts raided the supplies in the dark, and had to be repelled by light.

Day Two
The second day began with Thorne and Gurp Gorp volunteering to deliver powerful relics to the rift. They pushed through waves of demons that grew ever more powerful, bringing relic after relic safely through with them. The massively outnumbered duo ran out of time on the final delivery, a chest of potions.

Next a large group of heroes fought to defend the rift from waves of lesser demons breaking through the weakening veil between worlds. Amid these waves of lesser spawn, mighty greater demons periodically stormed the twin castles built astride the rift. The assembled heroes held the twin castles, and repelled the demons with such vigor that they were able to recover the lost chest of potions abandoned on the supply run.

Morigan and Scritta undertook the quest of the Magi; arcane rituals designed to weaken the greatest of the demons that led the invasion. The two heroes accomplished two rituals swiftly, incinerating a massive regenerating slime beast and running gauntlets of vile-spewing sandworms, then completing arcane rituals while under constant assault. Sadly, out of spell points the pair were unable to complete the remaining two rituals and soon joined the assaults on the demon lords themselves.

Demon Deities
Just when the heroes thought they'd have a chance to catch their breath, the rift tore open and the great leaders of the demonic host poured forth.

Morigan, Oblitus, and Gurp Gorp battled Uurgal-Who-Feeds-the-Crows, the demon of rage, a monstrous beast that took unending punishment while spewing great gouts of flame to consume his foes. The battle slogged on for an eternity, but the beast eventually collapsed in a pool of its own blood and rent flesh.

Sir Byron, Scritta and Hangman fought Gemik the Glittering One, a creature massively empowered by magical items. The demon was already weakened by the previously successful quest for the Magi, thus one of its potent defenses was already shattered. The three assembled heroes fought and dodged the demon while smashing its treasures with Sir Byron's Sword. As item after item was crushed asunder, the demon weakened, and was eventually slain.

Zi, Thorne, and Mock faced the many maws of Korth the bottomless, placating each poisonous mouth with its preferred treat. Satiated, the beast retreated back into the rift.

Alicaryn, Angus, and Havloch confronted the unblinking eyes of an all-seeing deity. Angus and Havloch bravely pushed back ceaseless waves of deranged cultists, fighting hard to defend their lone archer. Alicaryn launched arrow after arrow from the edge of the void into the abyssal eyes, and, one by one, the eyes fell from the sky. When victory was imminent--the final arrow was drawn, the final eye hovered twice-pierced--only then did the demon complete its spell. The beam of vile energy it unleashed mortally wounded all present. The demon escaped into the world of Dargarth. His most vile presence escaped into the lands of the first kingdom.

The heroes celebrated their victories and memorialized their fallen with gladiator battles. Silliness ensued.

Morigan hails from, placeholdervile, a small farming community in the water soaked river valley that nourishes and supports Mardur. She grew as most orcs do, simply and a bit too fast. Though originally arranged to become her village's medicine woman and sage, she was drafted into the Mardurian army, and soon found herself enrolled in the College of Free Sorcery where she graduated from in DY 6.

Apart from her duties as a regular in the Mardurian army and occasionally advising Thorne on magical matters, Morigan is also pursuing research into the nature of magical rifts and their interactions with relics of power.

The War of the Rift
Morigan was present for The War of the Rift of DY 7. She helped recover the lost artifacts of the magi scholars and successfully completed the Trials of the Magi. She, along with Gurp Gorp and Obi, defeated the avatar of the Titan of Wrath, and has become the current holder of the Bracers of Mending.
Morigan, Thorne, Artemisa, Zi, Hangman, Scritta, and Gurp Gorp were able to find and recover the remaining pieces of lore (though Thorne was cursed in the process).

That night, the group had to fend off thieving shadows that were trying to steal stockpiled potions.

Day Two
The second day began with brave Thorne and mighty Gurp Gorp's quest to deliver powerful relics to the rift. They pushed through waves of demons that grew ever more powerful, bringing relic after relic safely through with them. The massively outnumbered duo ran out of time on the final delivery, a chest of potions.

Next a large group of heroes fought to defend the rift from waves of lesser demons.

Morigan, Oblitus, and Gurp Gorp battled ??, the demon of rage, a monstrous beast that took unending punishment while spewing great gouts of flame to consume his foes. The battle slogged on for an eternity, but the beast eventually collapsed in a pool of its own blood and rent flesh.

Sir Byron, Scritta and Hangman fought ??, a creature massively empowered by magical items. The demon was already weakened by the previously successful quest for the Magi, thus one of its potent defenses was already shattered. The three assembled heroes fought and dodged the demon while smashing its treasures. As item after item was crushed asunder, the demon weakened, and was eventually slain.

Zi, Thorne, and Mock faced the many maws of ?? the bottomless, placating each poisonous mouth with its preferred treat. Satiated, the beast retreated back into the rift.

Alicaryn, Angus, and Havloch confronted the unblinking eyes of Envee the all-seeing. His most vile presence escaped into the lands of ??.

The War of the Rifts
Morigan was present for the War of the Rifts of DY 7. She helped recover the lost artifacts of the magi scholars and successfully completed the Trials of the Magi. She along with Gurp Gorp and Obi defeated the avatar of the Titan of Wrath, and has become the current holder of the Bracers of Mending.
