===Basics===
Deserters were once proud soldiers, but have since abandoned their armies. It is incorrect to assume they deserted out of cowardice; they may have simply been poorly paid, mistreated, or didn’t wish to die for their commander. Deserters know they would be punished harshly if captured by their army, and they will fight to the death to keep that from happening. Armed with their stolen military equipment, Deserters may or may not have done away with their old unit's colours, and may appear as armoured [[Humans]].

Deserters may act reserved upon sight, but they will act at an instant if they assume that a party is set out to bring the group to justice. Depending on the unit, or even the individuals themselves, the Deserter group may altogether ignore an adventuring party, might offer to hire out as mercenaries, or may attack suddenly.
===Combat===
Deserters still carry much of their military equipment, which means they may have strong armor and weapons. Depending on their level of training, a band of deserters may be a match for any force sent after them. While generally less disciplined than enlisted soldiers, they still are knowledgeable of tactics, and may have experienced battle before. Its advised that great care is taken when dealing with these desperate fugitives.
