-Small warships, not large enough to be considered ships of the line like their larger [[man-of-war]] brethren, they are none-the-less helpful as their sleek profiles are able to cut through the waves.  Their ability to mount a limited amount of siege weaponry (unlike the smaller trade [[caravel]]s), combined with their speed and capacity to carry additional marines, makes them a popular choice as pirate hunters and privateer vessels.
